Basic Facts about Blackjack
Whether you are a beginner to casino gambling, or already an experienced player, the game of blackjack is one of the easiest and enjoyable card games that the casino has to offer. The aim of blackjack is to defeat the dealer by obtaining a hand as near to 21 as possible without exceeding it. Playing casino blackjack only requires a fundamental knowledge of the rules, and the desire for enjoyment.
In the game of blackjack, each card has a corresponding value. The number cards have a value equivalent to their face value, while all the face cards have a value of ten. The ace is considered as a special card because the player can decide whether it will be equivalent to one or eleven. Because players of the casino are given a couple of cards to begin with, if you receive an ace and a face card worth ten points, you will have twenty one, which is an automatic win, unless the dealer does not get a score of twenty one, as well. This two-card winning hand is what is referred to as blackjack, thus the name of the game.
Casino rules for the game of blackjack are basically similar in all casinos. After receiving your initial two cards, your choices are to hit, stand, double down, split, or sometimes surrender. A hit signifies receiving of another card; stand means to retain your current cards. To double down means the bet is doubled in exchange for another card (you can take a maximum of five cards). If your initial two cards have similar values, you can opt to split (separate them and treat them as a distinct hand to be hit). The surrender option is not offered in all casinos. The surrender option signifies your withdrawal from the hand in order to get back half of your bet.
When playing the game of blackjack, make sure that you understand which type of table to select. The majority of the casinos have color coding for blackjack tables depending on the lowest bet accepted in the table, commonly $3, $5, $25 or $100. In any casino, the $3 and $5 tables will usually be congested since all the cards are in a face-up position, compared to the two-down method employed at higher tables. So the next time you go, or in your first visit to a casino, try to stop by a blackjack table, and go for twenty one.
