The Basics of Winning Blackjack
Blackjack is an easy and enjoying card game. Perhaps that is the reason why this century old French pastime still exists today. The rules of blackjack are simple. All we need is to have a total card value of 21 and avoid getting busted or exceeding that desired value.
Yes! 21 is the magic number in blackjack. In order to know whether we have it or not let us check the cards handed down to us by the dealer. For example, in our first two hands we get a 2 of hearts and a 3 of diamonds our total is 5. If we get an 8 of clubs and a ten of spades, our total would be …? Right, it is 18! In blackjack, numbers printed in each card represent its value. So again, if we get a four of clubs and a seven of diamonds our total is 11. Now what about kings, queens and jacks. In blackjack their initial value will always be ten regardless of suites. So for example, you get a queen of hearts and a jack of spades you get a value of 20. Having a value of 20 is already good because it is near the blackjack magic number. If we get a five of spades and king of clubs our total is 15.
What about the aces? In blackjack, an ace has two values it could be either one or eleven. An ace whose value is counted as one is said to be hard, because it represents its true value. On the other hand, it is soft when it is counted as eleven because the value could be one depending on how a player will play his cards. For example, if in our first two cards we get an ace of clubs and ten of diamonds, we automatically win that blackjack round. Remember that a ten of diamonds has a value of ten plus an ace, which as we said earlier could be eleven so our cards are worth 21, isn't it? (10 + 11 = 21). Blackjack's term our cards are said to have a soft ace and referred as natural.
What else do we need to know in learning the basics of winning blackjack? We need also to know our options or what actions does the casino or online betting site offer us such as surrendering, hitting, standing, and doubling down. When we surrender, we automatically give up half our bets. When we hit, we take another card, to improve our card total value. When we stand, it is the opposite of hit, which means we don't take another card. Finally, double down if we get two cards of the same kind for example two kings or two four's we could play it as two separate set and we will place an additional bet.
We must remember that not all casinos offer the same blackjack rules; however, the basic principle of blackjack operates among them. So the most basic of winning blackjack is to observe first before playing in any blackjack table and have fun!
